5.1 Volatile matter, when determined as herein described, can be used to establish the rank of coals, to indicate coke yield on carbonization process, to provide the basis for purchasing and selling, or to establish burning characteristics.View Less
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the gaseous products, exclusive of moisture vapor, as volatile matter in the analysis sample of coal or coke from coal.
1.2 The test method for the determination of volatile matter is empirical.
